Magento bearings are a type of deep groove ball bearing which only have one shoulder. This makes them easy to fit than a traditional deep groove ball bearing. They also have a slightly shallower inner groove. These bearings are ideally suited to applications with a low load and a high speed.

Passive magnetic bearings rely on permanent magnets for stable levitation without external power or control systems.

They’re effective but can't adjust autonomously, making them less versatile than their active counterparts. Active magnetic bearings use electromagnets and require continuous power and a control system to maintain rotor stability.

For enhanced stability, designs often combine both types: permanent magnets bear the static load, while active bearings adjust when deviations occur. Typically, a backup bearing ensures safety if power or system failures arise.

Active magnetic bearings operate without surface contact, eliminating bearing friction and wear. Electromagnets generate forces in radial and axial directions to levitate the shaft, allowing contact-free rotation. A control system actively monitors and continuously adjusts the current in the electromagnets to maintain the shaft position. High precision and stability make magnetic bearings suitable for a much wider operating range than conventional bearings.
