SKF needle roller bearings are bearings with cylindrical rollers that are small in diameter relative to their length. The modified roller/raceway profile prevents stress peaks to extend bearing service life.

SKF supplies needle roller bearings in many different designs, series and in a wide range of sizes, which makes them appropriate for a wide variety of operating conditions and applications.

A ball bearing is a type of rolling-element bearing that uses balls to maintain the separation between the bearing races. The purpose of a ball bearing is to reduce rotational friction and support radial and axial loads. It achieves this by using at least two races to contain the balls and transmit the loads through the balls. In most applications, one race is stationary and the other is attached to the rotating assembly. As one of the bearing races rotates it causes the balls to rotate as well. Because the balls are rolling they have a much lower coefficient of friction than if two flat surfaces were sliding against each other.

A thrust bearing is a particular type of rotary bearing. Like other bearings they permanently rotate between parts, but they are designed to support a predominantly axial load.^[1]

Thrust bearings come in several varieties.

• Thrust ball bearings, composed of bearing balls supported in a ring, can be used in low thrust applications where there is little axial load.
• Cylindrical thrust roller bearings consist of small cylindrical rollers arranged flat with their axes pointing to the axis of the bearing. They give very good carrying capacity and are cheap, but tend to wear due to the differences in radial speed and friction which is higher than with ball bearings.
• Tapered roller thrust bearings consist of small tapered rollers arranged so that their axes all converge at a point on the axis of the bearing. The length of the roller and the diameter of the wide and the narrow ends and the angle of rollers need to be carefully calculated to provide the correct taper so that each end of the roller rolls smoothly on the bearing face without skidding. These are the type most commonly used in automotive applications (to support the wheels of a motor car for example), where they are used in pairs to accommodate axial thrust in either direction, as well as radial loads. They can support greater thrust loads than the ball type due to the larger contact area, but are more expensive to manufacture.

• Spherical roller thrust bearings use asymmetrical rollers of spherical shape, rolling inside a house washer with a raceway with spherical inner shape. They can accommodate combined radial and axial loads and also accommodate misalignment of the shafts. They are often used together with radial spherical roller bearings. Spherical roller thrust bearings offer the highest load rating density of all thrust bearings.^[2]
• Fluid bearings, where the axial thrust is supported on a thin layer of pressurized liquid—these give low drag.

• Magnetic bearings, where the axial thrust is supported on a magnetic field. This is used where very high speeds or very low drag is needed, for example the Zippe-type centrifuge.

Thrust bearings are commonly used in automotive, marine, and aerospace applications. They are also used in the main and tail rotor blade grips of RC (radio controlled) helicopters.

Thrust bearings are used in cars because the forward gears in modern car gearboxes use helical gears which, while aiding in smoothness and noise reduction, cause axial forces that need to be dealt with.

Thrust bearings are also used with radio antenna masts to reduce the load on an antenna rotator.

One kind of thrust bearing in an automobile is the clutch "throw out" bearing, sometimes called the clutch release bearing

Stainless steel deep groove ball bearings are corrosion resistant when exposed to moisture and several other media. They are available capped (with seals or shields) or open. Open bearings that are also available capped may have recesses in the ring side faces.

These bearings have a lower load carrying capacity than same-sized bearings made of high chromium steel.

Miniature extra-thin-section deep groove ball bearings are designed for applications where space is limited and high precision is required. These bearings have a smaller ratio of outer diameter to inner diameter compared to standard deep groove ball bearings. They are suitable for various needs, including miniature ball bearings and sub-assembly unit products.

Double row deep groove ball bearings are very suitable for bearing arrangements where the load carrying capacity of a single row bearing is inadequate. For the same bore and outside diameter, double row bearings are slightly wider than single row bearings in the 62 and 63 series, but have a considerably higher load carrying capacity.

Double row deep groove ball bearings are only available as open bearings (without seals or shields).

Y bearing plummer block units, also known as pillow block bearings, are pre-engineered, ready-to-mount bearing units consisting of a bearing (usually a deep groove ball bearing) and a housing. These units are designed to be bolted onto a support surface, providing a convenient and standardized way to mount a bearing. 

Flanged Y-bearing units are a type of bearing unit designed for easy installation and maintenance. These units consist of a Y-bearing, which is a deep-groove ball bearing with a spherical outer shell, and a flanged housing that also has a spherically hollow bore. The flanged design allows for secure mounting on surfaces, and the spherical shape of both the bearing and the housing enables compensation for misalignments during assembly or installation.

Y-bearing take-up units are designed to accommodate shaft adjustment and belt tightening in applications such as conveyor systems and food processing environments. These units consist of a sealed ball bearing mounted in a housing, typically made of cast iron or steel, and are lubricated for life with a food-grade grease filling. They can compensate for misalignments due to their static pendulum function between the housing and bearing, allowing for easy mounting onto a shaft.

Four-point contact ball bearings are radial single row angular contact ball bearings with raceways that are designed to support axial loads in both directions. For a given axial load, a limited radial load can also be supported. The bearings are separable, i.e. the outer ring with ball and cage assembly can be mounted separately from the two inner ring halves.

Hydraulic adapter sleeves are designed to facilitate the mounting of large bearings using pressurized oil injection systems. These sleeves have oil passages on the threaded side and grooves on the outer surface for oil injection, which is convenient for installation and disassembly of components.

These sleeves are manufactured with high-quality materials to ensure durability and prolong the life of the bearing, protecting it in various industrial applications such as steel construction, cement mining, and textile industries.

Split adapter sleeves are used to convert different shaft sizes to ensure compatibility between components. For instance, brass pot adapter sleeves are designed to install knobs that are meant for 1/4" solid shaft pots on split shaft pots, both fine and coarse splined, and metric 6mm solid shaft pots, increasing the diameter of the pot's shaft so the knob will sit centered on the shaft.

Flanged sleeve bearings are designed for applications where a thrust load or axial constraint is needed, in addition to supporting a radial load. These bearings, also known as sleeve bearings, plastic flanged bushings, or flanged plain bearings, provide high performance and mechanical stability in various applications. They help reduce vibration and noise by using a sliding motion that absorbs friction between moving part.

Angular contact ball bearings have inner and outer ring raceways that are displaced relative to each other in the direction of the bearing axis. This means that these bearings are designed to accommodate combined loads, i.e. simultaneously acting radial and axial loads.

The axial load carrying capacity of angular contact ball bearings increases as the contact angle increases. The contact angle is defined as the angle between the line joining the points of contact of the ball and the raceways in the radial plane, along which the combined load is transmitted from one raceway to another, and a line perpendicular to the bearing axis.
